# Quickstart (/docs/getting-started/quickstart)

<CopyPrompt preset="install" primary>
  Rather hand it to your coding agent? This prompt installs the SDK, identifies users, adds groups and your key events, and checks they arrive. Inside the app, **Settings → Install** gives you the same prompt with your project token filled in.
</CopyPrompt>

<Steps>

### Sign up and create a project [#sign-up-and-create-a-project]

Create an account at [app.datahop.dev](https://app.datahop.dev). Then name your organization and your first project, and pick a timezone. The timezone decides where days, weeks and months start in every chart. You can change it later.

### Copy your project token [#copy-your-project-token]

Open **Settings → Install**. Your **project token** (`dh_…`) is filled into ready-made snippets. The token is public: it can only send events, so it's safe in client code.

### Install the SDK [#install-the-sdk]

Add this to every page of your site or app:

```html title="index.html"
<script src="https://app.datahop.dev/sdk/datahop.min.js"></script>
<script>
  datahop.init('dh_your_project_token', { host: 'https://app.datahop.dev' })
</script>
```

That's enough to capture pageviews, sessions, referrers and UTM campaigns. Next, tell Datahop who the user is when they log in, and send the actions that matter:

```ts
datahop.identify(user.id, { email: user.email, plan: user.plan })
datahop.capture('signed_up', { plan: 'free' })
```

For ES modules, Node and other languages, see [Install the SDK](/docs/getting-started/install).

### See your events [#see-your-events]

Open **Activity** in the sidebar. Events show up within a few seconds. Click a row to see its properties, or click the person to open their profile.

New event names also appear under **Data**. Add a one-line description to your key events there: it helps teammates and agents use the right ones.

### Connect an agent (optional) [#connect-an-agent-optional]

Create a key in **Settings → API keys & MCP**, then add Datahop to your agent:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http datahop https://app.datahop.dev/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer dh_sk_…"
```

Ask it something like *"What's our signup → upgrade conversion this month, broken down by source?"* See [Agents](/docs/agents) for other clients.

</Steps>
