People
Find people, read their timeline, edit their properties, add them to cohorts or delete them.
The People section is where your users and accounts live:
- Persons: everyone who sent an event, with profiles and timelines (this page).
- Cohorts: saved groups of people, such as power users or repeat customers.
- Groups: one page per group type, such as Companies.
What a person is
A person is everyone behind one set of ids. A visitor starts out anonymous, with one id per browser. When you identify them, their anonymous visits from every device join their profile. They count once in every chart, and their history stays complete.
Find someone
People → Persons lists everyone, newest first. Each row shows their name or email, an identified or anon badge, event count and last seen.
- Search by email, name or any id.
- Pick a cohort in the dropdown to show only its members.
A person's profile
Click a person to open their profile:
- Stats: total events, first and last seen, and how many cohorts they're in.
- Timeline: every event, newest first, including anonymous visits from before they signed up. Click an event to see its properties.
- Properties: everything you've set with
identifyorsetPersonProperties, plus first-touch details like the first referrer and campaign. - Distinct ids: every id linked to this person.
- Cohorts and Groups they belong to.
- Feedback they sent, in the timeline.
Click the ★ to pin a key customer to your sidebar.
Edit properties
On the Properties tab you can add, change or remove a property. Values like 42, true or ["a","b"] are stored as numbers, booleans or lists; anything else is stored as text.
This is handy for fixing data and for testing: set plan to pro on your own profile and check that a pro-only flag switches on. The next update from your app overwrites the same property. Edits show up in the activity log with who made them.
Add to a cohort
Add to cohort adds the person to a static cohort. Dynamic cohorts update themselves from their rules, so you can't add people to them by hand.
Delete a person
⋯ → Delete person removes the profile, properties and ids. It can't be undone. Their past events stay but no longer link to a profile. If the same id sends events again, a new person is created. To stop tracking someone, call optOut() in their browser, or stop sending their events from your backend.
